Photo Cakes in Bali: How Edible Photo Prints Actually Work

A food-safe printer prints your image with edible ink onto a thin layer of icing sheet or directly onto a 3D-printed chocolate topping. The print is then placed on top of the cake's frosting. Photo-realistic detail, full color, no fondant sculpting needed.

Our own process converts your photo into clean line art and prints it in chocolate — sharper and more durable than icing-sheet prints in Bali's humidity.

The print can only ever be as good as the source. The photos that print well:

• Sharp focus on the subject — not blurry, not motion-blurred
• Even lighting, ideally daylight (no heavy shadows on the face)
• Subject takes up most of the frame — full-body photos lose detail
• High resolution (at least 1500px on the long side)
• Plain or simple background — busy backgrounds compete with the subject

Screenshots of Instagram, photos with heavy filters, dark group shots, faces obscured by hats or sunglasses, and zoomed-in cropped images all lose too much detail in the print. If you only have one of these, our team can usually clean it up — but the final cake reads better when the source is solid.
